May 21st - 11am - 4pm Hutchinson, MN

We're so excited to have been asked to speak at the Slow Food MN foraged dinner, Where the Wild Things Are 2017. This meal is a fantastic opportunity to try some of the best that the area has to offer your taste buds. Nearly everything in the meal is found in the area (foraged), fresh and seasonal.

Besides being delicious, the event is also educational. There will be walking tours, tips on foraging for delectable treasons found all around us and more. We'll be speaking at the event and sharing about our food, farm and slow food philosophy.

Up-and-coming chef Yia Vang of Union Kitchen will cook a Hmong-inspired meal built around Minnesota foraged foods. Foraging was a way of life for the Hmong in Southeast Asia, and when they came to Minnesota, they adapted the dishes of their homeland to the wild plants they found here.

The menu:

  • Hmong Sausage Lettuce Wraps dressed with cattail shoots and mint piri piri sauce (tofu option)
  • Grilled Pork Char Siu with Yia’s spring pepper sauce
  • Vermicelli Rice Noodles with pickled ferns and burdock
  • Roasted Bok Choy and wild greens
  • Hmong Fried Rice in a giant wok, with smoked wild mushrooms and Hakurei white turnips
  • Yia’s American Dream (shortcake, rhubarb compote, York Farm strawberries)

Menu subject to change based on availability

Beverages:

  • Beer, Fair State Brewing Cooperative
  • Hard cider, Keepsake Cidery
  • Fresh beet kavass, Topos Ferments
  • Foraged herbal iced tea

Tours:

  • Take a foraging walk with local forager and herbalist Katherine Ostrowski of Urban Nettle.
  • Hear from chef Yia Vang of Union Kitchen, who was born in Thailand, came to Minnesota and has been cooking ever since. His stories intertwine food and friendship.
  • Walk the fields with Andy Cotter of York Farm to see what’s growing.
  • Get to know TC Farm owners Jack and Betsy McCann (that's us!) in a conversation about Slow Meat.
  • Meet Nate Watters and Tracy Jonkman, owners of Keepsake Cidery.
  • Learn about Slow Food, and give their terrific new board members a chance to know you.

The event is on May 21st from 11am - 4pm at York Farm in Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Tickets are $45 for Slow Food members, $55 for non-members, $25 for people 29 and under and free for children 12 and under.

You can get tickets here.  We're really excited to see you there!
